Parent Committees: Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084EADAC2EA1FFCF8-51153095-parent
Fundraiser Committee: Consists of up to 5 parents. This committee helps to manage/organize fundraisers, communicate with parents/students, and helps students search for/find community business partners/sponsorships.
Food Committee: Consists up to 3 parents. For when we attend competitions; manage and organize food lists, create menus ahead of time, manage restaurant reservations, Manage tip money, help with shopping trips (no financial obligations)
Competition Committee: This is our largest and most important committee. Almost all competitions will be assigned a parent volunteer to head over that competition for the year. It will be the responsibility of that parent to read over and realllly get to know the CEG for your specific competition. You will then create a group chat with all team members, and set up times to meet with the team (this can be during 2nd period, Wednesday after school meetings, in a public space, at someone's house, or virtually. You should meet with the team/check in with them atleast once every two weeks, more frequently is better if you can. Depending on the competition, it is your goal to make sure each member understands the CEG, competition, and the requirements. Many of the competitions require written work, research, etc. Please work with them on brainstorming, proofreading, and giving project feedback on how they can improve their projects. It is also your goal to help ensure our students are meeting competition deadlines. If you have expertise in the competition, that is great- but not required. It would also be great to help connect students to community members/professionals that can help train them for their competition. An example is website design: if you know a website designer, getting your team in contact with the website designer so they can help coach our team on what a good website includes, how to code, etc. Parents/community members are NOT to do any work for the students, they are there to support, help to train, proofread, and develop the skills they need to succeed in their competitions.
Community Members: Community stakeholders, parents, and students play an integral part in the educational development of our students and are vital to the success of our schools. The district recognizes and appreciates all volunteers who take the time to support our schools. If you would like to contribute your valuable time and skills to support our students and teachers, please consider volunteering by completing a FREE confidential volunteer application via RAPTOR Technologies, which provides Level I clearance to volunteers for the 2023/24 school year. Apply here: https://www.manateeschools.net/volunteer
Classroom/Day trip chaperones: Level I clearance, is required for ALL volunteers interacting with students in a supervised environment, such as classrooms, cafeteria, media center, daytime field trips, where you are in eye and earshot of a school faculty member or teacher at all times. Individuals desiring volunteer assignments in the school system must provide social security numbers and other personal information required to perform backgrounds screenings. Apply here: https://www.manateeschools.net/volunteer
Field Trip Chaperones: Level II clearance, is required for ALL volunteers who will be interacting with students in an unsupervised environment, such as overnight field trips, one-to-one mentoring, tutoring, and overnight competitions. Instructions to obtain Level II clearance may be obtained by emailing gambinod@manateeschools.net. (Please note: Application fees for a Level II fingerprint screening are approximately $80 and paid by the volunteer. The results are monitored by the Office of Safety & Security for a period of 5 years). In addition, volunteers who complete a Level II screening MUST also complete the Level I application. Apply here: https://www.manateeschools.net/volunteer

DECEMBER SILENT AUCTION
Permission slip: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18SXE7Vmha8vB3nrn-Q6eosTyRzBdavcfOUfsPWPBERo/edit?usp=sharing
BIDDING LINK: https://www.32auctions.com/brmstsa24
What: We will be hosting a school wide online silent auction in the beginning of December! Each student will be assigned a team and a parent team leader. They will have a category that they are in charge of collecting donations for (pampering, restaurants, action/adventure, etc). It will be their job to try and collect as many donations within that category from local businesses as possible. It is SUPER helpful for families to make small baskets within the theme as well, but if you don't have the time for baskets, just the gift cards/items will be great. They will keep track of EVERYTHING on a spreadsheet:
Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UTdQxb2UnNU-N1aXH3w27vw4k27oEtaIzA1YU12jP-s/edit?usp=sharing
When: All donations are due to Mrs. Dunfee no later than Tuesday, November 28th. The online Auction will take place from December 6-9. Families can pick up their winnings the week of December 10th.
Phone calls: students should call, introduce themselves as a middle school student in technology student association and let them know that we have a silent auction fundraiser coming up and they would like to leave a message for the manager to discuss a possible donation. If a manager is available, they should give a brief explanation of the fundraiser and let them know we have a website and are a 501-c3, which means all donations are tax-deductible. I usually quickly ask if the manager has an email that you can forward the information to, so they can review it in their own time. Often times, managers are more willing to do that. They need to sound cheery and professional over the phone, and practice this many times BEFORE making a phone call.
Email Template: If you have to send an email to a company or manager, please use the following template:
Hello, my name is _____ and I am a student at Braden River Middle School. I am also a member of our TSA chapter, which stands for Technology Student Association. We are a competitive team and attend 3 competitive events a year, competing in 37 different competitions all within the realm of science, technology, engineering, Math, computer science, and more! I am reaching out to you today because we are holding a silent auction on December 6-9 at our school and we are looking for local businesses to donate items we can auction off. The money will go towards covering student fees for States and Nationals. It will cost us roughly $43,000 to go and compete at both events. If you are interested in donating, you will receive two benefits: 1. Tax deduction- we are a 501-c3 non profit school, so any and all donations are tax deductible. 2. We will advertise for you! We will advertise your business during our entire auction week! If you are interested in donating, please let me know as soon as possible so I can arrange to pick items up before our deadline of 12/02/24. You can also mail the items to Braden River Middle School TSA, 6215 River Club Blvd, Bradenton, FL 34202. If you have any questions or need further information, you can visit our website www.brmstsa.org, call/text our teacher/TSA advisor Mrs. Dunfee at 941-840-1006, or email her at dunfeeb@manateeschools.net. Thank you very much for your time and consideration!.
Sincerely,

NATIONALS FUNDRAISERS:
Sign up Genius for fundraisers: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084EADAC2EA1FFCF8-55875440-nationals#/
Publix/Chik fil a/pdq/culvers: I will send out a sign up genius for students/parents to sign up for these events. The money raised from these events will go first to benefit students that work the events, and second the group. 50% of the money raised will be split among the student workers and the other 50% will be split among the rest of the Nationals Team. I am also looking for atleast one level 2 chaperone parent volunteer to be at these events, as Mr. Brown and I cannot attend them all.
Culvers: We can ask for donations and advertise at the restaurant
Chick-fil-a we can have signs but no collection baskets
PDQ: We can ask for donations and advertise at the restaurant
Publix: We are looking for a group of students to go to publix on 5/3 and ask for donations for our nationals team. We will do two shifts (9-11 and 11-1).
Car wash: All students are required to attend our car wash. We will have tickets after spring break that we will sell (pre-sales). All money will be split amongst the nationals team to lower nationals fees. The biggest part of making this a success is advertisements and word of mouth! We will have lots of advertising materials to send out prior to the event.

TECHNICAL DESIGN
The sale of Sports Logo merchandise is big business for teams, and for the online and retail locations of sporting goods stores. Each season thousands of fans look for new items to add to their collections. New items with practical value are always in particular demand.
Minor league baseball is a less expensive and more entertaining alternative to major league games. Select a New Jersey minor league team that you feel will benefit from some additional publicity, and design a gift box that includes a set of 3 desk accessories that will appeal to a fan of that team. Possible items include a desk lamp, pen/pencil holder, clock, tape dispenser, mail holder, etc. Think creatively about the design of each item and display of the logo.
Prepare a portfolio that includes each step of the technical design process loop. Describe why you selected this team and how your gift box will help the team get the publicity it needs. You do not have to build models of the accessories and gift box, but the design of the accessories and gift box must be explained through text and hand-drawn sketches, as explained in the Regulations for this event in the Middle School Competitive Events Guide.
SUBMISSION DIRECTIONS:
The documentation portfolio must be uploaded to Judge Pro no later than 11am on 12/4/24 and must include students’ Team or Individual ID#s.
